Lakeside Fish Farm is the story of how one couple gave up everything to follow their dream. Faith was born in Rwandan but grew up in exile. She had a yearning to one day return home and take care of children as some English missionaries once took care of her. Roger completed his BS in Aquaculture at Auburn University, Alabama and worked as a fish farmer in USA, UK and Israel. Soon after however, between 1988 and 2010, he took an extended career break in the IT sector winding up at a Silicon Valley Surgical Robotics company. Toward the end of that stint, he conceived Lakeside Fish Farm and on one nail biting day, he resigned from his job and embarked upon a new chapter. Roger and Faith sold their luxury home in San Jose, California and cashed out their life savings. They shipped everything to Rwanda and built a farm on the scenic shores of Mirayi Lake where they now live with their very large family.

Leaving California

We parked a 40' container outside our home and loaded it with everything we needed to build a fish farm in Africa. But much of it turned out to be unnecessary and we found ourselves short of so many things.

Breaking Ground

Almost our first challenge was to excavate a reservoir. We used this as an opportunity to get to know our new neighbors. It only took a couple of weeks, and it was from this pool of labor that we drew our future aquaculturists.
