Lakeside Fish Farm is an ideal destination for Kigali families to retreat to. It is an easy one hour drive from Kigali. You can either come for a conducted tour and stay for lunch, or make a weekend of it and stay the night. Our facilities include a convivial guesthouse and spacious family size tents. Everything is contained within the secure sixteen hectare site so there is little danger of theft or other unwelcome attentions as you and your family explore.
Meals at Lakeside are based on our own farm fresh produce. Our menu features Lakeside fresh vegetables, chicken, duck, and fish. It doesn’t get any fresher. You can even catch your own fish and have us prepare it for you.
Lakeside is an ideal destination for campers. Our 8-man tents are big enough to walk around in and they are furnished with sleeping pads. We provide firewood and a stone pit for campfires and a barbeque grill for your own cooking. Clean showers, toilets and running water are nearby.
Lakeside beach is a good base for making short walks around the lake. And to keep everyone busy, we offer a nature challenge for inquisitive kids.

A tour of the fish farm begins at the hatchery where fish eggs are extracted and incubated. Baby fish (fry) are hatched in incubators and nutured indoors for two weeks until they develop their protective slime. At this point, they are moved to outdoor nursery ponds where they graze on plankton and grow into fingerlings. Although many fingerlings are sold offsite, you will see some being grown to full size in the ponds to serve as the next generation's broodstock. Visitors can observe the Lakeside technicians moving broodstock around the farm and gathering eggs into the hatchery.
Vegetarian meals are possible with prior arrangement. Help us with our planning - contact us before you come....
