The Lakeside story is the story of a couple who gave up everything to follow their dream. (see our personal note) Faith was born in Rwanda and grew up in exile. She had the yearning to return home one day and take care of children as some English missionaries once took care of her.
Roger completed his BSc in Aquaculture at Auburn University, Alabama and worked as a fish farmer in the USA, UK and Israel. Between 1988 and 2010, he took an extended career break in the IT sector winding up at a Silicon Valley Surgical Robotics company. Towards the end of that stint, he conceived the idea of a fish farm in Africa.
To fund this project, Roger and Faith sold their luxury home in San Jose, California, cashed out their life savings and incorporated Lakeside Fish Farm LLC in California (later relocated to Wyoming) through which additional funds could be raised, and future dividends distributed.
On one nail-biting day, Roger resigned from his job and shipped everything to Rwanda. Once there, the Shaw's incorporated Lakeside Ltd, wholly owned by the LLC in USA, and started to build Lakeside Fish Farm on the scenic shores of Mirayi Lake where they now live with their family.

The place they used to live at. Tons of consumer choice. Money flowed freely and everything worked all the time.

They moved and purchased land in Bugesera. They hired local people to excavate the fish farm reservoir. This was their introduction to their new lifestyle. Rougher, but somehow more exhilarating
