Fingerling Growth RateUnder ideal conditions, fingerling body weight increases 20% every day for the first six weeks, after which it will gradually decline.
The rate of decline is linked to age more than size, which means that the growth rate of a 12-week old fingerling will slow down regardless of whether it is 0.5g or 2.0g once the customer gets it. This is why the first six weeks in the life of a tilapia fingerling are so important. Any stunting that occurs during this time will cascade throughout its entire life and cannot be recovered. Early stunting can be caused by sub-26°C water, over-crowding, inadequate rations, poor nutrition, and low dissolved oxygen levels. However, every fingerling leaving Lakeside hatchery has been raised under perfect conditions and is growing at its maximum potential. |
